This exhibition traces the ties that constitute our societies, sometimes empowering, sometimes constraining, and oftentimes contradictory. It invites us to embrace the tensions within ourselves and our societies as a site of productive disorder. Acknowledging our interdependencies, as well as our need for self-expression, art here becomes a way of shedding old ties while inevitably forming new ones.
Working with the Goethe-Institut to fund five upcoming artists to develop conceptual work over the course of a year, the curatorial process accompanied the artists throughout their production process. Within the space, the works manifested as immersive installations, that had to be balanced within one environment, creating a clear dialogue without crowding the space. Throughout the runtime, these installations were activated through workshops and performances.
